There's IT support. And then there's owning the outcome.

Most clients only learn the difference after living through both.

The distinction

IT support

confirms that packages ran and records were transferred. Status is green when the pipeline didn't throw an error. Tickets close when the symptom goes away. The provider owns the plumbing.

DevOps — as we practice it

— validates every data point against the business process, not just against technical receipt. The pipeline is monitored for what it should have produced, not just for what it ran. When upstream data arrives late or incomplete, the response isn't "the source system failed" — it's automated detection, structured alerts to the business, and fail-safe logic that prevents downstream corruption in business-critical systems. The provider owns the outcome.

Different cost structure. Fundamentally different value. Clients who have lived through both rarely go back.

What ownership looks like in practice

Since April 2025, Empower BI has been the sole operational owner of Lagardère Travel Retail Romania's BI and data platform:

  • ~100 hours/month of ongoing operational ownership
  • 200+ SSIS packages taken over, stabilized, and optimized
  • 4 daily ETL cycles plus hourly flows, with fail-safe logic protecting downstream systems
  • 7-day-a-week coverage, including off-hours intervention
  • Full lineage mapping across the SAP → DWH → analytics architecture
  • Upstream data incidents detected and absorbed silently — before the business ever sees them

All of it operated under the firm's ISO 27001-certified information-security discipline — because the party that owns your data platform's outcomes should be certified to handle what's in it.

Green statuses are easy. Correct numbers are hard. We're accountable for the second one.
